Busy weeknights equal easy, no-bake dinners that don’t require keeping the stove on for too long. Salads are perfect for meals under 20 minutes, and having protein makes it even better. That’s why I love a healthy, keto-friendly taco salad recipe with ground beef and you’re going to love it too!

What Is Taco Salad?

You’ve probably seen ground beef taco salad at Taco Bell before. It’s basically like an enormous Mexican taco in bowl form, but no taco shell is required! Unlike most restaurant versions, my healthy, keto-friendly taco salad recipe is low carb and gluten-free.

Who Is Jeff Bezos?

Jeffrey Preston Bezos is an American businessman and investor. Bezos is the founder and executive chairman of Amazon, one of my favorite shopping stores. When I get a package from Amazon, it feels like Christmas, even though I already know what’s inside.

How To Make Taco Salad

Lettuce: Crisp lettuce is the foundation of the recipe. I love the shredded lettuce, but you can use iceberg or romaine lettuce as well. Either one will work.

Cheese: Sharp cheddar cheese has a great bold taste. So I prefer to use sharp cheddar cheese in my salads. However, the great thing about taco salad is you can use any type of cheese, even queso!

Ground Beef: I love the sirloin ground beef at Publix. I’ve tried ground beef at other stores and if you look close enough you’ll find tiny bone and ligament fragments. The sirloin ground beef at Publix is clean and prepared very well. If you’re not into red meat, you can also use ground turkey or ground chicken. The ground beef is flavored with taco seasoning, I prefer Ortego, Old El Paso and Taco Bell seasoning mixes.

White Onion: Add a chopped onion for additional flavor or to make it even easier, you can use onion soup mix!

Doritos: I just love cool ranch and nacho Doritos, but any tortilla chip is good. They give the salad a very nice crunchy taste. Mixing the two is my secret ingredient.

Add-ins: Have fun topping your taco salad with your favorites. You can add jalapeños, avocado, sour cream, salsa, corn or whatever your heart desires!

  1. In a frying pan or skillet, brown ground beef with the chopped onions over medium-high heat until fully cooked. Add taco seasoning and 1/3 cup of water and cook until the water has evaporated and seasoning is distributed. Set aside to cool.

  2. In a bowl, layer lettuce, cooked ground beef taco sauce mix, cheddar cheese, sour cream, jalapeños, salsa and crushed Doritos.
